I've been an appraiser since 1999 and have spent much of that time as a staff appraiser for a large company. In 2006 I moved from the East Bay (California) to Davis CA, a small college town about 20 miles from Sacramento. When I moved I began to focus most of my time on real estate sales. I was burnt out on quick turn times and the feeling I could not keep up with the volume of appraisals I was expected to complete (I've never been a burn and churn appraiser). I have been away from appraising for a little over a year and now and feel I want to dip my toe back in, partly because I think real estate sales will be slow for a while but I am also hopeful about some of the recent changes that are going on. I was just at the Alamode convention in Sacramento and I'm inspired by changes in technology, software, the increased awareness of gathering "actual" data and the hope of increased regulation on commissioned loan officers.
